Volkswagen Group raises investments in transformation and automation of factories in Emden, Hanover and Chattanooga
Following the existing plant in Zwickau, these plants, which are next in the transformation plan, are set to become the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the industry, according to the company’s management. More than 1,400 robots purchased from Japanese manufacturer FANUC will be used to equip factories in Chattanooga (USA) and Emden. Another 800 robots for the Hanover plant were purchased from the Swiss company ABB. It is planned that in Chattanooga (USA) and Emden from 2022 the serial production of the electric crossover # id.4 will begin, and in Hanover at the same time the minibus # d.buzz will be on the conveyor
I assume that with ID. The German automaker made a particularly good guess at BUZZ, since at one time the «progenitor» of this model became a cult car, had enormous popularity. And there is practically no doubt that the new ID. BUZZ will be as salable as the legendary hippie mobile
In total, the Volkswagen Group plans to invest € 33 billion by 2024 with the aim of becoming the global market leader in the electromobility industry. The robotization and digitalization of new factories should help VW to quickly close the gap with the leader — Tesla. Considering that the #tesla line does not yet foresee a model similar to ID. BUZZ, VW may even take the lead. Most likely, by the mid-20s, we will see the strongest competition between #vw and Tesla.
